CISER’s mission is to meet the research needs of social science faculty, advanced students, and staff of Cornell University. It provides a centralized facility of information services for machine-readable data files, their acquisition, storage, maintenance, and processing. The CISER Data Archive maintains an extensive collection of numeric files for secondary analysis by researchers across campus.

The Archive acquires data in a variety of formats, and most of the collection is available on CISER's server running the Windows® 2003 operating system. Files may be accessed within the CISER computing environment (known as Athena), which requires a user account and password. This computing environment also provides high-end analytic and data storage work space for large files as well as the capacity to transfer files or their subsets to other machines for analysis. Most files may also be downloaded by current faculty, staff, and students from links in the Data Archive's online catalog. Information on obtaining accounts, assistance with statistical computing, and using Archive resources is available on the CISER web site.
