Computer Set-up

For optimal use of the Library Gateway and its resources, we recommend that you follow the basic configuration steps below.  If you run into problems or have questions, please try the Report A Problem Connecting link at the foot of this page.

Basic Configuration:

Click on each button to find out if your computer is set up properly to use the Library Gateway and its resources. To use the test buttons, JavaScript must be enabled.

To go directly into help and information, click on the links in the left column.

BrowsersWhile you can use any browser to view the Library Gateway and its resources, they are best viewed with current versions of browsers.
CookiesEnabling cookies is recommended for optimal use of the Library Gateway and its resources.

JavaScript

JavaScript must be enabled in order to use the Library Gateway's resources and services.
if JavaScript is supported.

Authentication

In order to access many resources the Library subscribes to from off-campus, you must authenticate yourself as a member of the Cornell Community.

Unicode Unicode is a computing standard that supports the display of international character sets. To view catalog records with international characters, a Unicode-capable operating system, the appropriate Unicode fonts, and a Unicode-capable web browser are recommended.
Spreadsheet Viewing Software If you cannot access and view documents with a .wk1 or .xls extension from some of the Library Gateway's resources, you may have to download special software.

File Compression

A software utility is needed to uncompress compressed files (.gz, .tar.gz, .Z, or .zip files) available from some Library Gateway resources.
