Request Items that are Charged Out
[Ask a librarian]

Services : Circulation : Request Items that are Charged Out

Recall

Placing a Recall on an item will produce a notice to the borrower that the book has been requested by another user, and must be returned sooner than the original due date. The new due date is usually 10 days from the date of recall. To place a Recall: when you find an item that is checked out in the Library Catalog, click on Requests at the top of the screen and choose "Recall" from the request type menu.

Hold

Placing a Hold on an item will put your name on a requestor list. The book will be held for you after the borrower returns the book and after all Recall requests for the book have been satisfied. Please note that a Hold will not generate a notice to the borrower and will not shorten the due date. A Hold request may be superceded by a Recall request, even if the Hold request was placed first. A Hold should be placed only when access to the book is not a priority, and you are willing to wait for a potentially extended period of time. To place a Hold: when you find an item that is checked out in the Library Catalog, click on Requests at the top of the screen and choose "Hold" from the request type menu.

Borrow Direct

Borrow Direct may also be used if a book is charged out from the Cornell Library. When you find an item that is checked out in the Library Catalog click on Borrow Direct at the top of the screen. Search the Borrow Direct catalog and if a copy is available you may place a request.
